Pipestone Golf Club
About
Pipestone Golf Course is an Arthur Hills design that has been acclaimed as the best public course in the Dayton area. The name of the course comes from blue clay soil that is buried deep in the ground. The native Indians of the area would use it for making pottery and they would call it pipestone. Nestled amongst rolling hills, the golf course offers plenty of elevation changes. The undulating greens and fairways are kept in immaculate condition but they rarely offer a flat lie. The front nine is particularly challenging with several holes that are framed with tress and crisscross over the same creek. Pipestone Golf Course's second hole is one of the toughest with a water hazards and a fairway that is severely sloped right to left.

Well maintenance course with a lot of hills!
Good experiences! The hole 2 is very challenge since narrow fairway next to water.
Course is great, management not so much
Let me start by saying the course is great. Love the layout and the conditions are very good. But I have an issue with the management. I booked a 6:35am tee time on a Saturday. I live about 1h45m minutes away, but I've played here before and really enjoyed it. Teed off on time. Played the front nine in 1h10m. Make the turn at 7:45am. Play 10, 11. Then all these carts start pouring out onto the course. Find out there's an outting going on. Left course and went to the club house. I asked the guy behind the counter if he thought it would have been a good idea to let me know there was an outing going on at 8:30. He said, "yeah, I don't know why they do this", leading me to believe this is a common occurance. Gave me a rain check for 9 holes. Not real happy about my experience..
Getting pushed!!!
Guy at check in was very nice, I messed up on tee time day was Wednesday instead of Tuesday and he gave me the same price. Starter was pleasant and helpful. The 3 others had not played the course and were excited. We were on the 5th hole and a twosome had caught up and we were going to let them play thru after the hole then an attendant pulled up and told us they were going to play thru!!! We were on the green putting!!! Seriously he waves them on to hit to the green then pulls the flag for them they finish and puts flag back in said thanks and leaves. If you have a foursome be prepared to get pushed all day and treated like 2nd class citizen for slowing down the twosomes!!!
Consistently Great Course for the $$$
I've been playing Pipestone for a long time and while it's had its ups and downs, personnel changes, etc, it always stays pretty close to the same. Arthur Hills designed two very different yet unique and challenging 9's yet they both offer just enough forgiveness to reward the average player without removing any of the toughness for better players. With so many over-priced courses Pipestone has always been and I hope will continue to be a very fairly priced public facility.
Fairways are in great shape and running very fast because of dry conditions. Greens were fairly immaculate and are running pretty true. The only possible complaint I could have is that they have seemed to let clover take over in some places. I don't mind if it's in the rough etc, but if I see it on the fringes etc then someone is cutting back or not doing a thorough job because it's not like that every year..........but that's being REALLY picky.
First tee time out
Course is in great condition...greens are fast and receptive, fairways are firm and running. Some bunkers are under repair, but are marked.
Staff was friendly and accommodating.
My pace rating is skewed...I played as a single in the first tee time, so of course it was fast.
Long afternoon....
Not my first time playing the course, but my first time this summer. We started about 4:00 an got done well after 8. We played the first 9 in about 90 minutes and the back nine in like 3 hours because we were behind the slowest Men's league known to man. It was brutal - awful. So it was really tough to get a rhythm.
Great course but the greens were so hard it was like putting on a windshield.
Nice layout, with a great staff
This was the 3rd time I've played Pipestone. The course was in good condition, fairways a bit firm, but greens were nice, slightly faster than average.
There's a mix of challenging holes, and risk/reward shots.
The one outstanding feature is the staff. Everyone I've interacted with was friendly and seemed eager to make my round a pleasant experience.
Nice layout
This was my first golf experience in Ohio. I had many choices for golf in this area and I'm glad I picked Pipestone. The course has many challenging holes and great scenery. The greens were in great shape and very fast. I will definitely go back.
Friendly and attentive staff
Except for the second hole (everything rolls down a severe slope toward/into the lake) the course is challenging but fair.
Greens rolled fast and true; held approach shots well. Tees and bunkers maintained nicely.
The course was in great shape following overnight rains; greens were quick, rolled true and held approach shots nicely. The fairways were cut tight allowing plenty of roll; almost too tight of lies for wedges within 30 yards. Staff was courteous and ranger was present; drink cart made the rounds consistently as well. Only minor drawback was an outing (48 golfers) teed off on a portion of the course 15 minutes after our tee time and slowed play down dramatically on the back nine. Haven't played here in over 10 years and was pleasantly surprised by the conditions of the course. Would definitely recommend.
Great course conditions and layout. Keep this on on your list!
The course was in very good condition despite all of the recent rain. Pipestone has a great mix of long and short holes and a variety of tees that make the course playable for a novice or challenge for the experienced player.
Only drawback was learning the course had a better deal than the hot deal prepaid price I paid on GolfNow. Call the course and check the rates so you get the best deal!
Great Course
I've played Pipestone before and had a great experience. Played yesterday and thunderstorms rolled in after the 4th hole, the horn sounded and we all headed in. I was happy to see a line at the register of guys getting rain checks (A lot of courses won't do that).
The course is well maintained and an excellent deal for the money.
I'll be back soon
Great course for the price..
I golfed this course several times before I found this deal on golf now. Went out by myself and enjoyed a beautiful day on a beautiful course!
If you like fast greens....
With little rain the day I played, the greens were very fast. Chipped pitches would not check, so you had to play it as a bump and run.
Fairways in great shape, but could use some water too.
Go play PS; You will enjoy it!!
Not for high handiccapers. too many blind holes
# 2 & # 18 unfair holes for high handicappers+ Front nine too many blind holes.course well maintained
Very good condition
Tee to green course was well maintained. The only complaint was play out of the bunkers: I know we've had some rain recently but bunkers were not maintained.
One of the Dayton areas best.
Greens and fairways are great. Nice amenities and the staff were very nice. Only negative were the roughs, they were very thick, easy to lose a ball. Made you wish you could hit every fairway.
excellent shape love the course
Play was a little slow but course made up for it with pristine condition.
Great Experience
Excellent course. Great Greens. Pace of play was excellent. Rough was real rough
Thanksgiving Day Before
Went out around 9. It warmed up and was wide open. Course had a few green spots left. Played soft.
I've been playing here for 15 years. When it softens up it is much easier. Shot a 78.
Going to play this week if it warms up again.
