Time will make this course better
The course is slowly developing. As the seasonal weather gets better the fairways and tee boxes will only improve. Greens weren’t too bad for this time of year. We enjoyed our round knowing the course is in its developmental and recovery stage. We will definitely come back and play it again.
Keep up the great work!
The course layout is excellent, along with the scenery. The owner is fantastic as well. This course was destroyed by an EF-4 tornado on Memorial Day about two years ago. This owner is investing LOTS of time, effort, and money into this place to bring it back even better than before.
The fairways and greens need some work, but are improving every time I play here, a new clubhouse is going to start being constructed soon, and this place will be fantastic at that point. As for the scenery….it’s a beautiful layout with some wide open fairways, and some tricky holes as well. I recommend this course and seriously….give the owner your support…..he is busting his butt to bring this course back.
It will get better over time.
Course is in its rebuilding phase from being dormant for years. They are working to build it back up. No clubhouse or drinks/snacks, so you have to bring your own. No trash cans on course either so unfortunately trash is littered into the surrounding woods. Sand is actually pretty nice(unfortunately I spent too much time in the beach). Fairways are being reseeded this falll, so hopefully the grass will be better next season. Overall a good course and will look forward to seeing it improve over time.
Graywolf 10/13/22
Course is in the rebuilding phase there’s a lot of work to be done on fairway condition most greens are in good shape they have cleaned up the bunkers and put in new sand I was told there are plans for a clubhouse I’m hoping the progress will continue
Optimistic
I've had the privilege of playing many public and private clubs in the greater Dayton area. The layout and routing of Graywolf, previously Moss Creek, rivals the top 3 in the area. At 7,200 yards it is a true test of golf featuring tilted fairways, amphitheater greens, and strategically placed hazards. I've been cautiously optimistic about their revitalization efforts but I truly believe they are moving in the right direction. I'm intrigued what next season will bring after fairways and tees are overseeded, greens have more time to mature, and remaining dead trees get removed. A new clubhouse, full service bar, and locker services make this a very appealing place to call home. I would have absolutely no qualms making the 20 min drive to play here. Looking forward to what the future holds!
wirk in progress
The greens were very good and the bunkers have new sand and they were cutting edges on a holiday. The tees and fairways are atrocious, most tees have no grass at all ,the fairways are all crabgrass n dirt, but they are obviously working to bring this course back to near what is was. A new building probably a snack bar is built by hole 10. After all this course has been thru (closing then a tornado) it is good to see someone trying to get it going again, it will take time but i will definitely give them another try in the spring
Fun challenging course
Fun place to go! The only reason the pace got 2 stars was because of a foursome that slowed everything down other than that it was fun! Will be going back
Group of 7
This course was relatively cheap compared to other courses in the area. The fairways and greens were extremely dry, but I know it’s been under new ownership for a few months so it was as good as it can get. I played a solo round in 4.5 hours. After passing a foursome on #3. I then played 4-14 without any sight of anyone. It was a lot of fun. However when I pulled up on 15 I noticed a group of 7 on the hole ahead of me, absolutely clogging up the course. When I pulled up to the tee box on 16 I was not offered to play through. This resulted in the final 3 holes taking a full hour and fifteen minutes to play. Golf etiquette has died since 2020. I’d give it a 3/5 stars, would play again but only later in afternoon or super early in the day.
Nicely done!!!
Props to the Management Team, as the course has come a long way since opening late last Fall! I hope that it will be back to the old glory before this season is out and full glory by next season. The bunkers have all be manicured and filled with soft sand, trees and debris have been removed and much of the long grass and brush is down, cut back and no longer part of the surrounding environment. Some of the tee boxes still need some work, but they are working on these too!
Nicely Done!
Getting Better; Almost back!
I have played this course several times this year, especially when they first opened and it looks much better now, than it did in April or May! The rough is down, the fairways looks good and the greens are roiling good, considering the damage.
Can't wait for the club house to open, so that we finally get another full service GC in North Dayton!
The course needs alot of TLC. Irrigation and some fertilizer will help out alot. Pace of play was the longest I've played. 3 groups of older men that must have skipped class the day golf etiquette was taught and wouldn't let a 2 some thru. 1st hole is a par 5. Only hole all day we didn't have to wait. Came up to the 2nd tee box and there were 3 groups on the hole. Plus they have some ugly stickers stuck on the golf carts. ;) GO BLUE!
Incredible Track-Give it time to rebound to its glory
Such a great track…love the layout, Tornado from 2019 did some damaged but i think a few years of TLC will restore this course to superb conditions.
Good course, rebuilding
Good course. Greens and fairways are in great shape. Tee boxes and rough are not in great shape but that is the right order when rebuilding.
Give this place some time to rebuild. Course design is excellent. Rough shape on some places on the greens.
My review worth the price ya pay for it.
After looking at this course multiple times on GolfNow and seeing the reviews, I finally decided I’d go and see for myself.
TL/DR- Amazing layout in the process of being rebuilt from being dormant for some years and hit by the tornados. Yes the course needs some time to develop, but being a Chi-Chi Rodriguez designed course, the layout is incredible. All conditions are playable, just inconsistent at times. We’ll worth the price of admission and funds will goto rebuilding this course to it’s insane potential.
Detailed review:
I really enjoyed Graywolf. The reviews were off putting, but today I decided I’d find out myself. It sits inside a beautiful neighborhood. There’s no clubhouse, just a shed type setup for now. They just got their last permit to begin building the clubhouse. I was met by name and handed a key to my cart and a once over of the course. Large practice green for putting and chipping. They also just opened their driving range, although I didn’t check that out.
Course conditions: It rained the prior 2 days, so I figured it would be sloppy, but to my surprise, it was really nice. That leads me to believe it’s been insanely dry, and I could see where during those dry/hot stretches we got, it was probably pretty brutal. Tee boxes were cut, fairways ran fast, and putting greens rolled consistent and true.
Tee boxes: Some were great, some were mediocre, and some were super bad. I can see where the inconsistency could bother some people. All were playable, but there were a few that were really rough.
Fairway: Majority of the fairways weren’t too shabby. Definitely some burn out from our dry stretches and it being dormant. There were some cases where I landed on solid dirt in the fairway and a time I had to take a ball out of a tire rut from the mower. Rolled fast, which I was surprised since it’s rained a ton. Some weird kicks off fairway shots at times.
Putting greens: Id says the majority of the putting greens were pretty nice. Unfortunately, What everyone says is true, the divots here are more than anywhere I’ve played this year. Unfortunately, this boils down the everyone maintaining their divots. You will 100% miss some puts your should hav made and have some weird lines. They did roll true and consistent. Reminder: It rained a lot before this, so dry conditions will certainly make em roll wicked fast.
Cart paths are terrible as others have said, just make sure to put covers back on your clubs before ya drive, it’ll rattle your bones at times.
The front 9 is marked, but the back 9 is not. They said the back 9 signs are over and coming in soon. I used a GPS golf app that locates each hole, so I had no problem and the score card will get you around, it’s just tricky at a couple holes. The rest of them flow really clearly.
No ball washes at any holes.
Carts were older but not beaten down. The one I had worked great.
Only true “complaint” I had was whoever was mowing tee boxes. From hole 3 to 7, there was a younger guy specifically cutting just the tee boxes. At every tee box he’d be cutting while I tee’d off, 20 feet away on a big mower, be there at the next hole to tee off, and so on. I finally waited about 20 minutes on hole 8 and he got ahead of me. I caught up to him around hole 15 and waited each hole for him to cut. He also didn’t replace the markers, so it made it tough to find which tee was white at times. In the future, cut the mower and let your players enjoy their round without cutting on the same tee box.
Summation:
I’ll be back again for sure! I enjoyed it. One of the more enjoyable layouts in the area in my opinion. Really pretty. When they get this course back together in a year or so, it’ll be arguably one of the nicest In the area.
Does it need work? Absolutely. If you like perfect conditions and consistency of a country club, this probably isn’t for you (Right now*)
Are some places around this area cheaper and maintained on GolfNow? Absolutely. I’d love for it to be cheaper so I can play it a few times a week like some of the other courses on here, but they also need the funding to bring it back, so I think a bit of what you have to understand you are paying for is supporting the course for the future.
I look forward to seeing what the owners and employees can do with it over the next few months to close out the season. I’ll be back again and will follow up if things change for better or worse.
