Long course
I actually really like this course. I love that it is such a long course and challenging. I know the course still has a long way to go and I only gave it three stars in hopes of giving it 5 stars in the near future.
Here are my reasons for not giving it 5 stars:
1. Tee boxes are way too tall (grass) and weeds growing in tee box.
2. Some of the greens need aerated pretty bad.
3. I talked with the golf course super and asked if they had plans to re-due the sand traps and he said they were working on it now and some of the sand traps were already done. That was a little worrisome as no sand trap that I had noticed had near enough sand in them, the sand was the consistency of cheap playground sand, lots of pebbles and big rocks in the sand traps and TONS of grass growing up through the sand, which re-iterates my statement of not near enough sand in the traps.
Still has a long way to go to get in good shape
We played this course in early spring and there hasn’t been a whole lot of improvement. The sand traps were almost unplayable, several greens were in bad shape - mostly sand, and very little work has been performed on the future clubhouse. The fairways have shown a little improvement but have a long way to go. On the bright side the employees have been outstanding. We will probably wait until early fall and try this course again.
Very challenging layout from the Blues
Tough course. Some greens excellent shape others are poor. Roll good. Lot of rough area needs to be seeded and most sand traps are not raked, or good sand. I can see with some TLC and finish of clubhouse would be a course I would play a few times a year. A lot of crosswind with the length not an easy course.
Great price
Excellent course for the money. Wide open fairways yet very challenging. Very friendly staff including the graywolf himself. Which is a big beautiful husky that greets you when you arrive. They are in the process of rebuilding somethings since the tornadoes but does affect the gorgeous course
Needs work. Give them time
If I understand correctly this course was abandoned or not maintained for a few years. It shows! The course is in poor shape. But they’re good signs for a revival. There is new ownership, A new clubhouse is being built and repairs to the course are being made. He course layout was enjoyable to play and with irrigation the fairways and greens will completely playable.
With time and an influx of capital this can be a gem of a course.
Up and coming
The course is on the raise. Course was very hard along with the greens. Some patchy spots on the greens that make it hard to putt. But give it a little time this will be a gem.
Currently a work in-progress
First thoughts: This course is still recovering from tornado damage that occurred a few years ago. I've heard that this started as a Chi Chi Rodriguez signature course, and it does look like a very well designed course.
The good: The staff is friendly, the fees for play and carts are low, and the area is quite beautiful. There's a lot of variety in terrain and features and play would be enjoyable to even a novice player. The course features very nice views, some of which are even reminiscent of TPC Sawgrass. The course presents challenging play to those that employ solid course management techniques.
The bad: It's been a hot and dry summer in Ohio so far. The course is in bad need of rain and continued watering. The fairways are very dry and in rough shape. Some are so dry that they've gotten to the point of cracks and fissures forming. The greens seem to be the biggest watering priority, and are in decent shape considering the weather conditions and the overall state of recovery efforts the course is currently undergoing. The Tee boxes could all use a bit of work to level them out and improve the conditions of the turf. It appears that there were a lot more bunkers at some point in the past, those that remain still present an adequate challenge, but could really use rejuvenation with the addition of new sand and sharpening up the edges. The return of the unused and now defunct bunkers would also be a welcomed improvement.
Final thoughts: Improving the course conditions with a bit of water, aeration, and (very specifically) a focus on improving the greens, tee boxes, and bunkers will surely take time. I really do hope this course successfully recovers, and if so, I have no doubt this course will easily become one of the areas golf gems.
Gray Wolf
This course is in rough rough shape. Even for $29, do not go until they get the clubhouse completed unless you just want to slap some balls around. No one was out there so we played 18 in 3 hours or so.
Beautiful course with loads of potential
The tornado clearly affected this course but it is on its way back. Beautiful layout. It's huge! Don't have the feeling that your playing two holes at once here. Every gole is intimate and there's plenty of room and Beautiful views. Can't wait to see how this course comes back in the future. They are currently building a huge clubhouse and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Will 100% be back.
Water issues along with very patchy greens
This course is trying to find its way back to what it used to be. I think it’s going to take 3-5 more years before this course is in decent shape.
Rebuilding stage
Facility is in the rebuilding phase after a tornado went through there a few years back. Back 9 is in pretty good shape. Front 9 still has some work to be done. I think within a year or two this course has the potential to be one of Dayton’s nicer courses. All that being said I plan to play the course a lot more this year and for years to come!!
Beautiful layout but needs work
Course is beautiful, and the layout is beautiful, staff is very friendly, but it looks like the course has been neglected for a while, fairways are dying. Greens are little ruff, bunkers have some grass growing. I’m sure they can clean up everything and make the course up to par, one thing is there is no clubhouse And that makes it very difficult for taking a break. Otherwise course layout is very good. For the price we pay for the green fees and for the cart is just amazing. It’s very cheap and very affordable. I think once the course is brought up to the level it was designed to, it would be challenging and enjoyable to play. I would play again.
Great Price, worth the money.
Most of the holes were pretty wide open...a few were tight/challenging. The fairways were in good shape, the greens were not in good shape, lots of bald spots. Anew club house is being built, but they were selling snacks at the check-in shack. Customer service was great, very friendly/helpful. The course is 18 consecutive holes, you don't come back through after the 9th hole. Overall, I enjoyed the couse and would play it again at that same low price
Good Track; Will Return After Improvements
Course Layout and Design is really nice. Course is rebuilding after neglect and a tornado last year. New Clubhouse being built. Greens were great; fairways were a little thin like a course in August. Overall great price for current conditions. Plan to return in a year..
Course is getting there
This course was destroyed by a tornado a few years ago and was shutttered. New ownership is really making great strides bringing it back. Love the course and I am enjoying watching it come back to life. You have to pet the course dog Kai while you are there.
Has awesome potential
Great layout, I have been wanting to give this course a look, love the layout. Can’t wait to see the improvements take shape in the future. I will definitely be back later in the year to see the progress they have made, can’t wait to see the new clubhouse when finished. This course offers a challenge for all levels of golfers. Starts out relatively easy and gets more challenging, specially the back nine. Would recommend gps apps the first time played, trouble is hidden in spots, especially hole 18.
Getting Better
We play here once a week. While the conditions aren't the best it's definitely getting better than it was last year. If you know anything about golf you'll see the improvements starting to take shape. People need to do their part by adhering to the cart rules and stop driving up onto the apron of the greens, rake bunkers and fix divots/ball marks.
